Daye was founded in 2018 by Valentina Milanova, a 24-year-old entrepreneur from the UK, to improve three aspects of the menstrual products industry: dealing with menstrual cramps, manufacturing quality standards, and sustainability.
Menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea) is a very common phenomenon. It is estimated that more than half of women, or people who menstruate, suffer from pain for at least one or two days during menstruation each month, and many women try to find solutions to deal with the pain. Daye’s tampons, in parallel with their purpose as absorbents, hope to help relieve cramps and pain during menstruation and thus potentially eliminate or reduce the need for the use of painkillers. According to Daye’s website, their tampons are made from natural ingredients and contain cannabidiol (CBD), a component found in the cannabis plant and is considered responsible for many of the plant’s positive properties, such as pain relief. Its mechanism of action involves the cannabinoid receptors found in the vagina, which supposed to allow the substance to be absorbed quickly and efficiently. Daye mentions that the tampons do not contain THC, that is responsible for the psychoactive effects of cannabis.
Another issue that Daye try to tackle, is tampons’ production standards. In most countries tampons are not classified as medical equipment, and the regulation in terms of sanitation da products’ quality is looser. Daye declares that it will continue to manufacture its tampons “in-house” at the strictest level of quality and standards accepted for any other medical product.
The company also emphasizes the value of sustainability, and some of their research and development efforts focus on finding sustainable solutions for the entire product chain – from reducing the use of plastic, to improving the life cycle of packaging. Every year, Daye collaborates with a company that measures the carbon footprint of its products (including raw materials, manufacturing, transportation and more) and helps them offset carbon emissions by planting trees in the rainforests.
HealthyHer has no personal or business connection to Daye, and while we try to bring you the latest news in Feminist Medicine, we also encourage you to explore it yourself with a critic eye and a curious heart. On Daye’s website you can find articles on CBD (the science behind the substance, its safety, recommended dosage determination, about CBD and pregnancy and breastfeeding), articles on women’s health, and how to be eco-friendly during menstruation:
